Biographical Note

David Ashby Stuckey (1849-1932) was a cotton farmer in the Manville area of Lee County, South Carolina. His grandfather, Edmund Stuckey, settled the area circa 1800.

    Bill of sale from Marx E. Cohen, 1873
    The bill is made out to D.A. Stuckey for $40.50. Stuckey sold Cohen a bale of cotton and was paid in credit at Cohen's store. The bill lists approximately eighteen items bought with the credit, including oil, cotton, calico, salt, rice, gingham, ginger, and a pair of boots.

    The bill is made out to Mrs. Stuckey for $20.60 and lists approximately six items, including two suits, two capes, and calico.
