Biographical Note

David Ashby Stuckey (1849-1932) was a cotton farmer in the Manville area of Lee County, South Carolina. His grandfather, Edmund Stuckey, settled the area circa 1800.

Materials include bills of sale from Worth and Worth General Shipping and Commission Merchants (Wilmington, North Carolina), Ducker and Bultman (Sumter, South Carolina), and W.R. Scarborough (Bishopville, South Carolina). Also included is correspondence from the office of Worth and Worth to David Ashby Stuckey regarding the sale of three bales of cotton, bale pricing, and credit balances.

    Included is a receipt made out to David Ashby Stuckey for $78.60 listing six items, including 214 lbs. of meat, 200 lbs. of sugar, and one tub of lard from Worth and Worth General Shipping and Commission Merchants, North Water Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Bills of sale include a bill of sale for two bales of cotton, one weighing 53 lbs. and one weighing 45 lbs., credited for the amount of $56.54 from Ducker and Bultman, Sumter, South Carolina.

    Miscellaneous correspondence of David Ashby Stuckey. Included are two letters from Worth and Worth General Shipping and Commission Merchants, Wilmington, North Carolina, regarding two separate sales of cotton, one sale of three bales of cotton, netting $136.03, and another sale of two bales of cotton, netting $72.64.
