Biographical Note

Abraham Meyer Krasnoff arrived in Bishopville in the 1890s, opened a general store, and in 1902 married Jennie Levinson. The Krasnoffs had three sons: Leo (1903-1969), Aaron (1905-1923), and Sollie (1907-2005). At one point all three-Meyer, Sollie, and Leo-operated shops in downtown Bishopville. After graduating from high school, Sollie opened a department store with dry goods given to him by his father. During World War II, Sollie fought in the D-day invasion of Normandy, France. Returning home, he married Mildred Brill (1914-1998) and fathered two daughters, Jennie (1947- ) and Dixie (1952-1993). Leo Krasnoff married Ann Pittle (1907-1991) and operated several stores, including a liquor shop, in downtown Bishopville.
