Biographical Note

Will McMasters was a captain in B Company, 56th Armored Engineers Battalion, 11th Armored Division, of the U.S. Army during World War II. McMasters was part of a group present on May 6, 1945, the day Mauthausen concentration camp was liberated.


Collection Overview

The collection consists of photographs, booklets, and maps related to Will McMasters, a captain in the 56th Armored Engineers Battalion of the U.S. Army during World War II. Photographs are of McMasters and fellow soldiers in the field during World War II, mostly working on pontoon bridge construction. Also included are nine Holocaust atrocity photographs from Mauthausen concentration camp, in Austria.
