Biographical and Historical Note

Bruce Irving Siegal (1941- ) was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Arthur and Shirley Siegal. His father ran Marvel Manufacturing Company, a business established in 1935 by Bruce's grandfather, Adam Siegal. In the early 1960s, the Siegals relocated from New Jersey to Mullins, South Carolina, and opened the Marvel Lamp Company, with Bruce working alongside his father, in 1963. After selling the company to American Brands in 1974 the family remained in the lighting industry, establishing the Supreme Lighting Corporation in 1980. Bruce would continue to run the company with his cousin Gary Siegal after his fathers death in 1994. In 1992 it was ranked as one of the state's 100 largest private companies, becoming one of the largest lightbulb manufacturers in the country. The company was sold to SLI Inc. in 1999.
