Biographical Note

Harris Blumenfeld (1861-1953) was born in Tuckum, Russia, and immigrated to the United States when he was 19 years old. He married his wife, Dora, in 1887 and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1910. In Memphis, he joined the Baron Hirsh Congregation, eventually serving as an assistant to the rabbi. He established the Blumenfeld Ice & Coal Co. in 1919 where he served as president until his retirement in 1942. Throughout his life he wrote poetry, publishing a book of poetry titled Garlands of Thought in 1941.
