Historical Note
Aleph Zadik Aleph (AZA), an all-male Jewish youth organization, was founded in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska. The group was adopted by B'nai B'rith International as its official youth program in 1925 and became an international organization in 1926. AZA's Charleston chapter #143 was founded in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1931, as part of the organization's southern region. By its tenth anniversary in 1933, AZA had 100 chapters in the Unites States. In 1944, B'nai B'rith Girls (BBG) was officially established and B'nai B'rith Youth Organization (BBYO) was created to govern both groups.
